Denise from Sunny Days in Second Grade is doing a great getting-to-know you series through the end of the year.  I’m excited to have a reason to be a bit more personal with all of you.  Each week on Monday, I’ll, hopefully, link up and share a personal side to myself.

This week she’s talking about fitness.  I think it’s such a timely topic.  We’ve reached the point in the year where we’re not drowning any more- and by not drowning I mean that we are treading water pretty steadily.  I’ve felt like I’ve gotten into a routine, though things look to get really busy this next week.  I can finally take some time to make myself a priority.  I’ve recently come to the realization that I have a large number on the scale and that number needs to change.  Like now.  I’ve been where I’m at now for about two years.  I had gained about 10 lbs since my weight before that- and at that time THAT was my heaviest.  I too often let my work take over my life.  And while so many teachers do, it’s not healthy for me, or anyone for that matter. Not to mention, my life after work is always incredibly busy as well.   Last week I set forth with new resolve.  I bought a new set of workout dvd’s.  I stopped going for coffee daily (that’s a hard habit for me to break!), and I worked out one day.  That one day is a start.

So, going forward, here’s my plan.  I’m going to set my alarm a half hour earlier (at 4:30).  I will likely hit the snooze for a long period of time, as always, but it’ll my start my chain of events sooner.  I will try to workout in the mornings because my evenings are still much too busy.  I’ll have two hours in the morning to do everything I need, which is ample time if I don’t hit snooze and adequate time if I do.

I’m also going to plan my meals better.  I do end up going out to eat quite a bit each week.  It’s what my reality is.  It’s often with friends and sit down restaurants and they do generally offer some not-so-bad choices.  But, I will plan my entire week more accordingly.  If I’m doing dinner with a friend, my other meals that day and the next day will be very healthy to compensate for it.  I will no longer rely on convenience foods to take for lunch because they’re easy.  I’ll focus on taking the time on the weekends to prepare better meals for myself.

There’s no better time like the present.  Life changes start now.
