Sometime in March I found out it was very likely I would no longer have a position at my school. I love my school. We have a fantastic staff and have been able to do phenomenal things with kids. I’ve been incredibly sad and disappointed that I’ll be leaving. The staff only found out this week so I felt like I couldn’t say anything. However, I’ve just not been myself lately and haven’t been creating, blog stalking, or feeling like blogging. I’ve been a bit disattached (I don’t think that’s a word). So I took a break. I’ve gone to a couple interviews, and I think both went well, and I’m hoping that I hear something back from one of them soon. Otherwise, I’m continuing to hunt and look and hope for the right job. My blog is Tales from Outside the Classroom because I’ve always been an “untraditional” teacher and have done just about anything and everything in education outside of teaching a classroom of my own students. While I’ve loved doing that, and have learned SO much and have a large skillset because of it, I really would love to have my own classroom. My own group of kids to build relationships with. And I’d really, really love to do it in first grade. I love their little hearts and heads and the growth that you can see in them. So, fingers crossed for me!
In the meantime, I’ve not been computer free. I’ve been continuing to expand my blog design side-gig. I’m having so much fun learning new tricks. And I have some awesome friends who have let me design their adorable blogs. If you don’t follow me there, check out my portfolio and see some of the great designs I’ve done based off of some awesome bloggers’ ideas. I’ve also spruced up this site a bit now that I’ve learned so much from when I first redid it. If you haven’t clicked over in a while, because I haven’t posted so why would you, come take a sec and check it out! I also added a page where I can share some of my favorite children’s books. I’m slowly adding covers there and trying to sort by theme.

You'll find a job! You have very creative ideas and any school will be lucky to add you to their staff!

Thanks so much Deniece 🙂
So sorry to hear about the disappointment. My husband has just graduated with his Masters and now we're going to move to…wherever we can find someone to hire him! So I'm going to be starting the whole moving-interviewing-starting over thing too! 🙂

Good luck!
Sorry for the sad news. I'll be sending good wishes your way so you can score the perfect 1st grade position. And who knows? You may end up in a different grade and end up loving it more! (I thought I wanted to be a 4th grade teacher, and now I adore K!) Good luck with your search!

Oh, Tess. I am so sorry. You are one of the most talented, resourceful people I know. AND one of the busiest! I am lucky that I can still use your resources in my classroom. One thing I admire about you is that you always land on your feet. (((HUGS))) to you.

Thanks Deb! I was really hopeful that I could come back, but I guess it just wasn't in the cards for me. I do have a second round interview this week so I'm really hopeful. Thanks for your kind words and all of your support!
I just found your blog…and saw your post…I am sure good things are heading your way! Your blog is adorable! Best of luck!

Hi Tess,
I hope that things have worked out for you since this last post! Your polka dot frames are adorable! Is there a tutorial you watched to make frames? I've been trying to find one myself because I see all these cute ones all over the place and can't seem to find one. My tech-skills are also quite limited too
