Sight Words Turkeys

Learning sight words can be tricky and I’m always looking for new ways for students to practice their sight word recognition.  One of the best way to improve students’ abilities to read sight words, is by having them read the words in various settings and fonts.  Often, while doing sandwich drills with flash cards, I’d grow frustrated that students would know the word when they were working with me, but if they saw it anywhere else, they wouldn’t be able to identify it.  After continued exposure to the word in different settings, students build their recognition with that word and are better able to transfer it to new settings.

I made these sight word turkey pages several years back.  I have used them with kindergarten and first grade students over the years.  They’re just a fun way to build in some sight word practice while also letting kids color and build some fine motor skills as well.

Each page includes 5 different sight words and there are a total of 20 pages!  This gives you choices between the Dolch pre-primer, primer, and first grade sight words lists.  This allows you to differentiate for your students, or give you several different options for pages, allowing you to use it throughout November!

These are straight-forward and simple sight word practice perfect for kindergarten and first grade in November.  With a fun turkey theme, they are Thanksgiving themed, or, you can make it not related to the holiday and just give your students sight word practice all year long.
